| The Knoxville Tennessee Registry of Interpreters
for the Deaf (KTRID) elects its officers every year in December. |
| President -- Kim
Hinchey |
Kim
Hinchey was Vice President of KTRID for 11 years and now serves
as President. She worked at the Tennessee
School for the Deaf for fifteen years as a Dorm Counselor,
Assistant Supervisor, and finally Cottage Supervisor. She now
works at the University of Tennessee
as a Sign Language Interprer/Transcriber for the Office
of Disabilities Services where she coordinates interpreters
for theatrical productions there. Kim holds a Certificate of
Transliteration and Certificate of Interpretation from RID and has presented at local,
regional, and national conferences on musical interpreting.
She has interpreted several Broadway productions here in the
local area. She has been involved with InterAct
Children's Theatre of the Deaf since it began as both a
performer and a shadow interpreter. Kim enjoys being with her
friends and family, especially her wonderful and talented children,
Adam and Rachel. |
| Vice President -- Melinda
Kerr |
Melinda
Kerr is a full time Video Interpreter for Sorenson Video Relay
Service, a part time interpreter at the University
of Tennessee and freelance Interpreter in the Communtiy.
Melinda holds her CI and CT certifications from RID and is currently working
on her SC:L certification. Melinda graduated from UT with her
BS degree in Educational Interpreting. Melinda enjoys working
in various arenas such as education, legal, medical, mental
health, musical, and theatrical.
Melinda resides in Jefferson City with her husband, Bryan, and
their two beautiful children Ti and Emily. They also have animals
they might as well claim as family...Simba the cat, and dogs,
Skyy and Mace. If Melinda is not working you will find her outside
in her gardens (flower or vegetable) or you will find her somewhere
taking pictures. Watch out, she might be taking a picture of
you!
She said she would be a bad sister if she didn't mention her
Deaf brother Bobby Joe (Joey) McGhee...so...she learned to sign
when she was small from Joey and all of the wonderfully patient
Deaf people in Morristown. Thank you to all of you! See how
all of your time and tutoring paid off!!! ILY

| Secretary -- Laura
Ellison |
Laura
Ellison is a full time staff Interpreter/Transcriber at the
University of Tennessee in
the Office of Disability Services. She is a graduate of the
University of Tennessee's Educational Interpreting Program.
Since graduation she has interpreted in a variety of settings,
educational being the one that she enjoys the most. Laura has
been coming to KTRID meetings since she was in school and is
an avid workshop attender. Laura recently received NIC certification.
Laura is active in her church, loves hanging out with her friends
and family, and enjoys crafts of any kind. |
| Treasurer -- Brenda
Sellers |
Brenda
Sellers is a full time staff interpreter for Knoxville
Center of the Deaf, Inc. and currently serves as KTRID's
treasurer. As treasurer, Brenda is responsible for coordinating
the membership program. Brenda is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky
University and moved to Knoxville in January 2006. She served
on the board for Kentucky's Affiliate chapter of RID first as
a student representative and then as newsletter editor of the
Connector for several years. Brenda enjoys spending time
with family and friends, especially her husband, Nelson, and
Stampin' Up! |
