Internet Public Library- The Internet Public Library is an educational initiative of the University of Michigan School of Information and includes reference materials, exhibits, magazines, newspapers ,online books and special sections for children and youth.

Encyclopedia Britannica - this is the online version of the famous encyclopedia often found in libraries. You can search here for general information about a wide range of topics.

OneLook Dictionary - Type in a word here and it looks in over 500 diectionaries for you. Right now over 2844798 words are included. You can also search in special dictionaries or just see how a word is spelled.

Webopedia - if your interest is in computers, the Internet or technology, then you might want to start here with your search here with the only online dictionary and search engine for computer and Internet technology. Seach by keyword or in categories like "multimedia" "types of computers" and "operating systems."

Yahoo! Reference - if none of these references seem to be helpful, then you might want to check out this listing of all types of online reference materials that have been created by Yahoo!

Internet Search Engines/Directories

Yahoo! - a large directory of sites. You can either search the site or "follow your nose" by clicking on categories and seeing what is available. Yahoo! also offers clubs, free e-mail, and online games among other services.

AltaVista - a search engine that uses special computer programs that search the web and index the pages to include in their searches. The neat feature of this search engine is that you can also search for pictures as well as words.

Dogpile - this is a "metasearch engine" which means that you type in your search word and it sends it to several search engines all at the same time. Then, the first few of each search engine's results come back to you. This is a good place to start if you just don't know where to look first!

LaFollette/Campbell County and Genealogy Links

Campbell County Genealogical Sources - This site, from the State of Tennessee web site, contains information about geneological sources that are available from the State Library and Archives.

Campbell County, Tennessee Genealogy Web Site - A site, hosted by RootsWeb, that provides lots of links to a variety of geneological resources such as death lists, cemetary locations and maps.

LaFollette Press - The weekly newspaper of LaFollette, TN has an online counterpart. You can read the current editorials, front page stories and obituaries. An archive is under construction.

Tennessee County Historians This listing, from the State of Tennessee web server, has names, phone numbers and addresses of each county historian. It is updated periodically to stay current.

The Internet has LOTS of information on it. Some of it is better than others. But, if you want current information about government programs, automobile prices and travel specials, the World Wide Web is a great place to find it. Here are some sites to get you started.

Autoweb - If you are in the market for a new or used car (or just want to keep the one you have running), then look here to see how to research, maintain, enjoy, buy and sell your new or used car.

BigBook - This collection of over 16 million U.S. businesses lets you find specific services anywhere in the country. BigBook also gives you nationwide street maps, third-party reviews, and customer ratings of businesses.

Financial Aid - Start here for government information about student financial aid such as eligibility status, how to apply, deadlines, info about Pell Grants, loans and campus-based programs. Each year, the site is updated.

Internet Movie Database - Want to read reviews about current releases? Can't remember the movie that won the 1962 Best Picture Academy Awawrd? Then this is place for you!

MapQuest - In addition to maps, and yellow-page listings, MapQuest can give you driving directions to and from street intersections and airports. It is also started to include European and Canadian information too.

Switchboard - Looking for a phone number? In Guernersville, California? This is the place to start with over106 million residential listings and 11 million business listings.

Travelocity - The neat (and useful) "3 Best Itineraries/Low Fare Search Engine" turns up some low fares. This site also works to make deals among 700 airlines, 34,000 hotels and 50 car rental companies.

Public Libraries in Tennessee - Interested in where other public libraries are located. Here is the list.

TN State Library and Archives - Based in Nashville, the state library maintains lots of materials for historical and geneological research.

Clinton-Powell Regional Library - LaFollette Public Library is a part of the Clinch-Powell Regional Library. The regional libraries help us with interlibrary loans, equipment and library planning.

Tennessee Electronic Library

Tennessee Electronic Library - the year of1999 was a big one for the state of Tennesese and electronic information. The Tennessee Electronic Library is a project that provides every public and school library in the state with access to electronic databases of information.

To access the InfoTrac database, go to this site (NOTE: The password is "elvis" - no quotes).

Younger searchers may want an easier interface (great for students).

There is another database also in the project. Before you go to it, copy the username and password. Username=tel_p_lpl and the password=elvis.
