Campbell County LC: Campbell County Lions Club ladies decorated this table [right] and placed 2nd out of 27 tables at a Family Services Center event to raise money for the shelter for victims of domestic violence. Well done, ladies!
Veterans Appreciation Day: Lions Volunteer Blind Industries first Veterans Appreciation Day was a great experience. Paul Diamonti, Colonel (Ret.), U. S. Army, and Director, Textiles & Niche Product Development for National Industries for the Blind, spoke. Also on hand was Bill Snodgrass representing Congressman Phil Roe, Lana Moore representing Senator Lamar Alexander, State Rep. John Litz, and others.[Click image for larger view.]
Eyeglass Recycling Trip: Twelve hard working Lions from District 12-N made the trek to Roanoke on November 7th. A great group and got a lot done. This is truly “We Serve” in action. Thanks to LeReau Carlson and Eunice Carlson from Campbell County, Patricia Shepherd and Allen Shepherd from Lenoir City, Hubert Thompson and Nancy Thompson from Knoxville, PDG Jim McFarland and Shaaron McFarland from W. Knox, and Zone Chair Edna Longwell, Dick Bogan, Bill Murdoch, and Harry Ennis from Kingsport. Merle Hash from the Roanoke Center was, as usual, amazed at the amount of hard work accomplished. The group unpacked several thousand pairs of glasses, and read close to a thousand lenses. [Click image for larger view.]
KidSight Outreach Screening: The Campbell County Lions Club screened at Eagle Bluff Child Care in Lafollette on November 5; the club has screened about 600 youngsters. The photographer is Lion Past President Larry Elam and assisting is Lion Secretary Carol McDonald.
Campbell County Lions Club: State Senator Ken Yager [right]was a recent guest of the Campbell County Lions Club, and spoke on the State of the State. On the left in the photo is Club President and 12-N 1st ViceDistrict Governor Bill McDonald.
LVBI Update: Margaret "Pat" Williams and Audrey Hubble [on screen, right], both employees of Lions Volunteer Blind Industries, were recognized at the 2009 National Industries for the Blind/National Association for the Employment of People Who Are Blind Annual Training Conference in Kansas City October 21-24. Pat was nominated for a career achievement award by the local agency, and Audrey was nominated for employee of the year. In addition, LVBI Executive Director Don Britton and Vic Mende, Rehabilitation Director at LVBI, were recognized for graduating from the New Agency Leadership program.

Region 1,Zone II Meeting: 1VDG Bill McDonald sent this photo of the September 8 meeting conducted by Zone Chair Edna Longwell. PDG Jim McFarland presented a program about Sure Sight which was extremely informative, giving a lot of stats that show we are doing well--but we have a lot to do.

Col. Kurt Wilson Tours LVBI: Colonel Kurt Wilson, Supply Chain Manager, Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, toured Lions Volunteer Blind Industries August 13, with representatives from 26 other agencies for the blind from around the country. He gave an informative presentation to the representatives in the afternoon regarding the military apparel procurement industry and how it relates specifically to agencies like LVBI, whose mission is to provide jobs for the blind. Over 80% of LVBI’s contracts are with the military: bedding products, helmet covers, physical fitness pants and industrial paper towels. LVBI employs 90 blind workers at their facilities in Morristown and Johnson City. [Click image to enlarge.]

T-Shirt Design Contest: Lion Cliff Swoape announces
the Diabetes Awareness Committee for Tennessee will host a T-Shirt Design Contest for a Diabetes Awareness shirt. This shirt will first be worn at the Country Music Marathon and ½ Marathon by Lion runners and walkers who enter the event and sign up with the DA Committee. Get rules here as a "pdf" file.

Car Show:
The Farragut and West Knox Lions Clubs held their 7th Annual Open Car Show August 8. Among the many cars was a classic Rolls Royce and a Ferrari. Congratulations to Past Council Chairman Dean Harshbarger (center) who received the Lions International President's Award for his service to the Association; presenting the award at the first Council of Governors' Meeting in Nashville was PID Bill Watkins and Lion Nellie Harshbarger.
