Neighbors -- Knox County Neighborhoods

About Neighbors

Neighbors@korrnet is a public forum for leaders and residents of neighborhoods in Knox County, Tennessee, including those in Knoxville and Farragut.

To subscribe to this list, you must fill out the form near the bottom of this page. After subscribing, all participants are required to introduce themselves to the group. Send an email to the list with "New Member" in the subject line. Please include your name, email address, name of your neighborhood or organization (if any) and title with your organization (if any). Participants are requested not to share this information with anyone outside of the list.

On this list participants may:
** Post announcements or information about current activities that may be of general interest to other neighborhoods.
** Explore issues of common interest.
** Request support or ideas from other neighborhoods on zoning, public improvements, non-profit status & similar corporation issues, fund-raising, and the like.
** Provide tips or advice to one another.
** Debate the pros and cons of regulations, ordinances & legislation affecting neighborhoods.

This list may also be used by local government agencies -- such as the Metropolitan Planning Commission, the Knox County Office on Neighborhoods, and the Knoxville Dept. of Community & Neighborhood Services -- to post announcements relevant to neighborhoods.

It is not necessary to belong to a formal neighborhood organization to join this list. In fact, if you are thinking about organizing your neighborhood, you may get some good advice from other members of this list.

This is a moderated list. Postings not relevant to the issues and concerns of Knox County neighborhoods will be rejected. Lisa Starbuck of the Northeast Knox Preservation Association and Rachel Craig of the Island Home Park Neighborhood Association are the initial moderators.

PLEASE NOTE!! Replies to messages on this list will be sent to everyone on the list. To reply only to the sender, you must "cut and paste" that person's address into the "TO" field of your email message.

----------BASIC "NETIQUETTE" FOR THIS LIST----------

*** Please sign your messages with your name and (if appropriate) your neighborhood/organization.

*** Remember that any message you send to the group will go to many individuals and then be stored in the archives. Most folks will know you only by what you say, and how well you say it. Take time to make sure that you are proud of the messages you send.

*** Be brief. Many subscribers just won't read long messages (or even long paragraphs!).

*** Think about your audience. Stay on topic. The focus of this list is issues of interest to Knox County neighborhoods.

*** Make sure that your message's subject heading reflects the content of your contribution. If you have changed the subject (or if you notice that it has gradually migrated), please change the heading accordingly.

*** For security reasons, please do NOT send attachments. Instead, you will need to copy and paste the information into the body of your email. As a matter of policy, email sent to this list with attachments should be treated as a virus and deleted without opening the attachment.

*** When replying to a message, decide first if your reply is of general interest to the list; i.e., dont send messages intended for one person to the entire list. Posts that do not contribute to the thread content or are aimed at a single individual should be sent by private e-mail to the subscriber(s) concerned. For example, "atta-boys," "me-too"s should be sent off-list to the person you wish to praise.

*** Do not post someone else's private message publicly unless you have prior permission to do so.

*** Be careful with humor and sarcasm. Without the voice inflections and body language of personal communications, it is very easy for a remark meant to be funny to be misinterpreted. You can convey the emotions that words alone cannot express by using such online conventions as "smileys." :- )

*** Please refrain from personal attacks on those who post or on others, including public officials. If you want to refute someone's position, do so with examples, personal anecdotes, research etc. Forthright and honest discussion is welcome, but replies ritten in the heat of anger are seldom any better than the postings that inspire them.

*** If you feel the need to cry foul, contact the moderators and/or respond to the person off-list. Carrying an argument onto the list is both impolite and uninteresting (at the very least) to most of the other participants.

*** Remember that this is an informal forum. The spelling and grammar may not always be up to your standards. Resist the urge to correct a subscriber on-list.

*** Likewise, no matter how many times you proofread a message, you'll discover your own errors right after you press send. Unless the meaning of the message is substantially distorted, resist the urge to clutter the list with a correction.

*** If you need to contact the moderators for any reason, please email neighbors-admin@korrnet.org.

*** Members of this listserv -- but not the general public -- can view a list of members. See the link at the bottom of this page. Please use the members' list for identification purposes only. As a member of his list, you implicitly agree that you will not distribute members' email addresses to other parties or use them for any other purpose.

PLEASE NOTE: KORRnet reserves the right to remove from this list any individual who uses the members' list for commercial purposes or who cycles names on this list into other lists without the express permission of the individual members.

To see the collection of prior postings to the list, visit the Neighbors Archives. (The current archive is only available to the list members.)
