Find Your Space @ Your Library is a series of four fun workshop sessions for tweens and teens. In addition, there will be extra activities and contests to participate in.
All sessions are free and are open to tweens and teens ages 12-15 only. No parents or older/younger siblings will be allowed to attend. There will be space available for 20 young adults on a first come/first serve basis.
**Workshops Offered--Mondays in July**
Week 1 (July 7): Library Survivor--Think you have good library skills? Prove it by working as a team to solve clues and build items useful to surviving on a desert island. The first team to complete all the challenges and come up to the circulation desk of the Children's Room is the winner and will receive a prize.
Week 2 (July 14): Monopoly Tournament--Players will face off in two 90 minute rounds. After the first round, the top five players will go on to round two. The winner with the most money (cash & property holdings) will be the winner and receive a Monopoly game set. The remaining finalists will each receive a smaller prize. All players will take home a PayDay candy bar.
Week 3 (July 21): CSI Forensics Experiments--Love CSI shows on TV? Then come to this workshop to learn about this fascinating career. We will be showing tweens and teens interesting forensic techniques and experiments used at crime scenes.
Week 4 (July 28): Gross Out Grub Contest--A variety of gross grub will be numbered and served. Contestants must roll the dice and eat the food that matches the number on the dice they rolled. Each contestant will only have two opportunities to decline a food. The winner is the first one who samples everything!
**Contests**
Design Your New Teen Space--Have a flair for creativity and design? Enter our contest for designing the new Teen/YA Section of the library. Each contestant will design a room plan for the YA collection with seating, bookshelf, and color choices. The winner plan ideas might be used in designing the new section. All entries must be received no later than July 31. The winner will receive a DVD player. Entry forms will be available on July 1.
Ultimate Teen Book Survivor--Each week in July, tweens and teens will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite YA book. The book choices will be eliminated until the final winning book is posted. Entry forms will be available starting July 7.
