Mission Statement

Montessori Middle School provides an innovative land-based educational program in which adolescents can excel academically, engage in meaningful work, acquire leadership skills, and learn to care for themselves, their peers, the environment, and their community.

Montessori Middle School recognizes adolescence as a period of great transformation and extraordinary potential, and provides a supportive teaching and learning environment that empowers young people to set and exceed their own educational goals, thereby fostering a strong sense of purpose and worth.

To achieve these ends, the school employs the Montessori method of instruction, which provides materials and an environment designed to meet each student's academic, emotional, and social needs and maximize their abilities, thereby encouraging students to deepen their understanding of themselves and others through dialogue and reflection. The use of computers, the Internet, and other technologies expands students' horizons and prepares them with skills they will use for the rest of their lives. Joint projects with external organizations and businesses provide practical work experiences that enable students to apply what they have learned and allow them to participate in their community in a meaningful way.

Through individualized instruction, experiential activities, and a respectful learning community, Montessori Middle School develops independent learners, critical thinkers, and tomorrow's leaders.
