The With Hope in Mind (WHIM) Program

The With Hope in Mind program is taught by family members for family members. The eight-week course provides the opportunity to share feelings and experiences, and to learn:

  • the facts about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse;

  • detailed information about medications;

  • skills for coping with different cycles of each illness, including crisis planning;

  • sources of financial assistance;

  • information on community services;

  • instructions on how to collaborate with professionals and manage the stages of recovery.

An on-going WHIM support group is available to any adult family member or primary care giver/ supporter for as long as needed. Completion of WHIM education course is not required to attend the WHIM support group, although it is recommended if possible.
