What area does the North Hills Area Association cover?
The neighborhood has defined its boundaries roughly as Cecil Avenue to the south, Whittle Springs Road to the west, Washington Pike to the north and Prosser Road to the east.

What is the history of North Hills?
North Hills is one of the post World War I and pre-World War II subdivisions that sprouted in Knoxville.  Brothers George, Hugh and Carl Fielden started developing North Hills in the spring of 1927.  By 1928, forty-three homes had been built with some of Knoxville's most prominent families living in the area.  Covering 185 acres, it was one of the largest subdivisions in Knoxville for its time.  It was an upscale neighborhood that had its own private bus service to downtown Knoxville.

Have any famous people lived in the North Hills area?
Many well-known Knoxvillians have lived in North Hills.  John Cazana, who during the 1960s and 1970s was a TV weather forecaster, wrestling promoter, and painter.  The late William F. "Rex" Raney also lived in North Hills.  His 40-year career in Knoxville included newspaper and television journalism and advertising.  The late Cas Walker, the former mayor, millionaire grocer, and colorful T.V. personality built his home on Gaston Ave in North Hills.  Gloria Ray also grew up in the neighborhood on Kennington Rd.  She was instrumental in getting the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame off the ground.  She also graduated from Fulton High School.  Actress Patricia Neal also lived in the neighborhood for a time.

Are there other groups active in North Hills?
Yes, North Hills has always been a Knoxville garden spot, helped greatly by the North Hills Garden Club, which  was formed in 1935.  The garden club deserves much credit for planting flowers and trees throughout North Hills.

What about Plantation Hills?
NHAA considers Plantation Hills to be a part of the association.  The neighborhood falls within our association boundaries.  Plantation Hills, developed in 1959, is built on 75 acres southeast of North Hills.  With 162 lots it also was one of Knoxville's largest subdivisions at the time.  The developer, Citizens Realty and Insurance Co., touted it as a project that offered the latest in design and modern conveniences that would help reverse the flight of homeowners into the suburbs.  Each home would have sewer service at a time when most suburbs still relied on septic tanks.  The subdivision featured six different home designs, with the "gold medallion" type featured as a Good Housekeeping Home of the Year design.
