The Regular Meeting for December 2007 will NOT be held this year!

The third Thursday is December 20, and that date was too close to the holiday weekend to schedule an event. We hope that everyone will join us in the COMING NEW YEAR. To eliminate this conflict with the Holidays each year, we are considering meeting on the second Thursday of each month, if the meeting room is available. Note: THE JANUARY MEETING will be held on the THIRD Thursday.

Officers of the Oak Ridge PC Users Group
wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season.

SPECIAL EVENT IN DECEMBER

For all members who have an interest, we are planning a trip to a LARGE shopping center for computers and related products for Saturday, December 8*, where you do not need a membership card to shop for bargains.
*This planned trip has been delayed to a later date, possibly December 29. Check this space for further information.
We will visit Fry's Electronics Store in Alpharetta (north of Atlanta), Georgia. The plan is to leave the Church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and take as many vans as necessary to accommodate those going. We can "chip in" for the gasoline required for the trip.
We will visit the store, have lunch, and return in the afternoon with all the great Christmas gifts that you have purchased (for yourselves - or others). Everyone is invited, and you can come at the last minute, but it will help us to know the number of vans that are needed, if you call Steve Peyrot (483-2570) and let him know that you plan to go.

A SHORT COURSE ABOUT VISTA

Similar to our previous short courses, we are planning to present another series on the new Microsoft Operating System VISTA. Even if you do not have VISTA at present, the information in the course will be helpful. If you plan to buy a new computer at anytime in the future, it will probably have VISTA as the operating system. This course will help you decide which version of VISTA you need (there are six versions) and what computer components you will need for it to operate efficiently.
We will meet at the Senior Center on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room. Then we will meet on alternate Thursdays until the course is complete. This will be a presentation in the series "Proffessor Teaches" from Individual Software, which is a series of presentations and demonstrations. The unit has eight chapters, and we can usually cover two chapters per meeting.
Many features of VISTA will be similar to those you encountered with Windows XP; however, some features are new. One significant difference is the method that you use for storing files. Rather than creating a folder and a name, you can just use any name that is convenient. When you want to retrieve the file, a built-in search feature will find it based on any characteristics that you can conveniently remember. Or, you can do it the old way.
This course will be open to anyone in the community who is interested. Please pass the word to those you think may be interested.
