Program by Erik Von Halle: "Demo of KompoZer & a Bamboo Tablet; DVD on the Internet vs the World Wide Web"
7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011
New Life Church of the Nazarene, 200 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge

Erik

Erik Von Halle will be presenting a mixed multimedia meeting: A DVD of Modern Marvels 80's Tech that has a great explanation of the Internet versus the World Wide Web.

Then Erik will demonstrate KompoZer, the Free Web Page Creator / Editor from Mozilla, the same people that brought us Firefox. Come learn how to build web pages and post them to the Internet using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Here's the link to the FREE version of KompoZer so you can download it and try it before the meeting: http://www.kompozer.net/

KompoZer combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG web page editing capabilities found in Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe DreamWeaver, and other high end programs.

KompoZer is designed to be extremely easy to use, making it ideal for non-technical computer users who want to create an attractive professional-looking web site without needing to know HTML or web coding.

Then, if there is time, Erik will demonstrate his Christmas present -- a Bamboo tablet from Wacom. Here's the link:

http://www.wacom.com.bamboo/

An incredible value, the Bamboo tablet works with your existing computer: desktop or laptop, PC or Mac. Attached to a standard USB port, Bamboo allows you to use simple hand gestures and finger taps to move around your desktop, scroll through documents, navigate the web, zoom in and out of photos, and rotate images.

Or, if you need precision, you can pick up the pressure-sensitive pen to edit photos, create personal greetings, make sketches, and mark up documents in your own handwriting.

We'll begin with a business meeting to elect officers for 2011, and continue with the usual Question-and-Answer Session before the program.

Dues for 2011 ($20 per member or per household if two or more members share the same address) can be given to the Treasurer, Edward Von Halle, at the meeting, or mailed to him at ORPCUG, P.O. Box 4241, Oak Ridge, TN 37831. Thank you.
