October 23 – 25, 2007  Program by Love Russia directors

Alex and Jacqui Cooke, directors of Love Russia, a Christian humanitarian charity based in the United Kingdom, will speak at the Wednesday night supper at First United Methodist Church on October 24, 2007.  They will present information about their programs which benefit the children and youth in the territories of the former Soviet Union.  Love Russia has supported SCSO by identifying Obninsk teens leaving the local orphanage to participate in the Genesis project.  This project provides transition services and financial support to enable these teens to continue their education.  All SCSO members and interested persons are invited to attend.  Please make dinner reservations with Jerry Luckmann (483-3958) by Oct. 15.  Cost of the meal is $4/person.  Dinner begins at 5:30 PM and the program will start at 6:15 PM.

 

October 27 – 31, 2007 Visit of Naka, Japan “Wings for Women”

A 12-person delegation from Naka, Japan will be visiting Oak Ridge from October 27 – 31.  The 11 women and one man (age 43 – 59) will participate in a program designed to introduce them to the educational, medical, social, civil and service institutions in Oak Ridge. SCSO will need host families to provide hospitality Oct. 28 – 31. If you would like to host one or two of these Japanese visitors, please contact Jerry Luckmann (483-3958; kluckmann@bellsouth.net) or Shigeko Uppuluri (483-9957).

 

November 10 – 18, 2007  Open World delegation from Obninsk, Russia

The SCSO has received a Library of Congress Open World grant to facilitate establishment of a Second Harvest Food Bank program in Obninsk.  A delegation of 5 or 6 men and women from Obninsk will be in Oak Ridge in November to participate in a program designed to introduce them to food relief projects operating in Tennessee.  Funds from this grant will help to fund other SCSO programs.  Host families will be needed for members of this delegation from Nov. 10 – 18.  If you are interested in hosting a Russian visitor, please contact Jerry or Ken Luckmann (483-3958; kluckmann@bellsouth.net).
