(American Teen to Russian Teen)
Tina Luckmann's Girl Scout Gold Award Project was to make blankets for teenagers who are leaving Russian orphanages. She also collected items that she felt would be useful to these teenagers as they began independent living. Manicure sets, warm socks and gloves, fleece scarves, sewing kits, school supplies, hygiene items and a clock were included in the kits. These ‘Blankits’ were shipped to Love Russia, a Christian Humanitarian Organization in the United Kingdom. Love Russia volunteers distributed the bags to orphans identified for their Genesis Project. The Genesis Project provides support for teens continuing their education after they leave the orphanage at age 16. As a result of this project, Love Russia visited orphanages in Obninsk and identified 5 teens for the Genesis Project. Extra efforts were made to take ‘Blankits’ to these teens in Obninsk, the Sister City of Oak Ridge, Tennessee
