FOSSIL OF NAKAMACHI WHALE

Bones and twenty pieces of teeth of whale were found from layer of mudstone in Nukada Minamigo region. This fossil if from whale which was alive about 1100 years ago in the mid Cenozoic period. Now a model of the fossil is exhibited in the Central Public Hall of the town.

JOGUJI TEMPLE

Buddhist hermit BenEn (Meihobo) built the temple which belongs to "Jodo Shinshu" sect. This temple keeps a picture scroll of prince Shotoku's biography, which was made in the period of Kamakura. Now it is designated as on the important national cultural assets.

Bishemontan is a life sized statue and is said to be a work of sculpture "Unke" and is designated as one of the important cultural aspects of the prefecture.

Buddhist priest Shinran who spread the idea of Jodo Shinshuentrusted his 14th disciple Sandanobu with Oyama Zen Bo which he considered as an important base in the time of missionary work in the eastern provinces. It is said to be the beginning of the temple. Statue of Amida Nyorai, which the temple is dedicated to, was made in the mid Muromachi period and is designated as a cultural asset of the prefecture.

SUGAYA KASHIMAJINJYA SHRINE

It is said that this shrine was built in the year of "Daido" (Early 9th Century) and ensrhines Takemikazuchinokami. It's "Osuke" festival , which is held on 15th of August in every three years, is well know as festival representing Naka town.
