Obninsk Community Tapestry – It looks great!

See progress in the Oak Ridge Library lobby area and also on our web site.  Marianne Vigander estimated completion possibly in early September.  Watch the SCSO web site for information about a “cutting off” ceremony as our volunteer weavers complete this beautiful work of art!

 “Russian Leadership” Grant opportunities

SCSO has submitted two proposals through The Academy for Educational Development and Sister Cities International to the Library of Congress Open World “Russian Leadership” program.  Bob Benning and Ridgeview submitted a proposal that involves drug and alcohol and mental illness co-dependencies.  This project was initiated during the IRX/SPAN program with the united Way and Obninsk last year.  A second proposal involving “City Leadership Programs and Economic Development Issues” was submitted with assistance from Carol Smallridge and Jim Campbell.  We should hear regarding our success by the March meeting.  Each program would involve at least two participants from Obninsk with two additional participants from Russia (we hope Kaluga Region).
