and the
Youth Connection in Obninsk, Russia

First United Methodist Church, Oak Ridge (FUMC) and Colonial Heights United Methodist Church Knoxville (CHUMC) have been working with a Youth Home in Obninsk for the past year. The connection was established though the Russian Orthodox Church (Fathers Rostislav and Vladimir) and the Obninsk City Administration (Irina Efimkova, Vice Mayor for Social Affairs). A team from FUMC and CHMC visited Obninsk in June of 1997 and saw the facilities and met the kids during their stay in Obninsk. A computer donated by Methodist Medical Center Oak Ridge has been upgraded using funds from FUMC and Internet service has been donated for the center by a local Internet service provider.  The Oak Ridge Breakfast Rotary Club has also adopted the kids and has donated funds and clothing.  A trip is planed to Obninsk in 1999 to bring donated clothing and other items to the kids.

The email address for the center is "orphan@obninsk.ru".
