Kaluga Region Delegation Visits Oak Ridge

December 1998

A delegation from the Kaluga Region visited Oak Ridge as part of a program arranged by Mr. Howard Kerr (R-Maryville, Tennessee House of Representatives) and Vladimir Bogomolov (representative to the Kaluga Parliament from Obninsk).  The program began in Nashville with meetings with representatives from the Tennessee legislature and state government to determine if a sister state relationship could be established.  The Oak Ridge Sister City Support Organization provided a seminar on sister city activities presented by Dr. Ken Luckmann and also a dinner honoring the visitors that evening.   Their stay in Oak Ridge was limited to one day by the extensive program prepared by Mr. Kerr.  The program. funded by the Kaluga delegates (International transportation and Visas) was also made possible by generous in-kind donations arranged by Mr. Howard Kerr for lodging, local transportation and other events.

We have not heard any further communication from the Kaluga delegation regarding the sister state relationship at this time.
