Under the leadership of Marti Fleischer and Marianne Vigander, the second community tapestry for Obninsk is now underway!  This initial progress report (and photographs)  is submitted by Marianne Vigander.

"As the loom for the Obninsk tapestry was being moved into the Oak Ridge Library and being prepared for weaving, the weavers were assigned a small project to do.  Smaller hand looms, a wooden picture frame or a simply constructed loom from copper pipe were used.  As we attended class at Marti’s  house or worked at home, weaving also began at the library.

At the beginning the project looked like this.

As the weavers get busy, the tapestry has more color ...

... and is growing !!

Finally four of the small samples were finished.  (above) Liz Lieberman and her landscape,

Marge Courville and her cat,

and Carl Bretz and a landscape.

Another landscape was done by  Marianne Vigander.

Sometimes preparing for the weaving takes more time than one would like.

Today the tapestry looks like this.

Marti Fleischer  continues to contribute her time and talents to the project.  She weaves ...

... and marks the pattern onto the warp threads.

We are eight weavers plus Marti.  The community continues to be very interested in our progress and SCSO appreciates the Oak Ridge Library again making space available in the lobby for this project.  Adults and kids visiting the library who see the weavers at work continue to ask great questions about the weaving process."
