- Low Teacher: Student Ratios
- An educational and enriching curriculum for all children (Infant-5
years)
- A positive and safe environment where children learn to interact with
those around them without resorting to physical violence
- Competent and Caring Teachers

|
- PCK strives to keep classroom numbers at least one less than the maximum
allowed by DHS
- This lower ratio allows teachers and students to spend more 1:1 time
learning together
- Lower ratios also allow for a less stressful environment for teachers
and students

|
- PCK’s curriculum is based on three general themes that allow each
teacher to create her own lesson plan designed around children’s
interests and developmental needs.
These themes are:
- Me, Myself, and I
- My Neighborhood
- My World

|
- PCK’s curriculum theory is borrowed from several schools of
thought that center on child interest, healthy learning, and positive
environments
- We believe that allowing teachers to design their own lesson plans gives
them the opportunity to explore the children’s interests in a way
that will enrich learning for the children as well as the teachers

- Sign Language & Spanish Instruction:
- Teachers incorporate American Sign Language into the daily functioning
of the classroom through the use of songs, stories, and routine
interactions.
- Ms. Sanjuana comes to PCK to teach the children Spanish in a fun and
exciting atmosphere, and teachers reinforce lessons in the classroom.
- Music-N-Motion:
- Ms. Gina comes to PCK to sing, dance, and be silly with the children in
a way that incorporates learning about the world around them.
- Parent-Child Yoga Classes:
- One evening a week, parents and children gather at PCK to exercise
their bodies, relax their minds, and spend quality time together.

- When a child is enrolled in PCK, the family becomes part of the
cooperative by paying a membership fee
- Becoming members allows parents to have a voice about the type of
educational environment in which their child/ren is/are immersed
|
|

|
- Although PCK continues to amend
- and reshape extensive bylaws, there are simple ways to make your voice
heard at PCK. Parents may:
- Attend regular board meetings;
- Voice opinions/concerns to board members & vote on important issues;
- Become an elected board member/alternate;
- Become an active participant in your child’s classroom!
|
|
9
|
- To keep open lines of communication, there is a teacher representative
on the board who is responsible for relaying to the board
teachers’ opinions on important issues
- Teachers are welcome to attend and contribute to the board meetings,
although they do not participate in voting
- PCK’s Director acts as a liaison between parents and teachers when
necessary
