Holidays in the Mountains
Presented by the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge

Saturday, November 5, 2005
10:00am - 4:00pm
at the Children's Museum of Oak Ridge

This family event is in its 32nd year. Once known as Appalachian Festival, this year's event includes many new features. These include photos with Santa, Christmas tree decorating, and secret Santa gift-wrapping. Our historical exhibits will come to life with educational narratives on how people have celebrated the holidays over the last 150 years. Children's crafts are always a part of our festival as well as our special barbecue lunch. Artists will be selling hand made pieces such as jewelry, quilts, painted rocks, gourd baskets, dolls, soap, historical prints and wood carving. Demonstrators will be on hand displaying whittling, apple butter making, and pottery design.

Performers include well-known folk singer Tom Chapin, musician and storyteller Georgi Schmitt, and bluegrass band Summer Wind. Chapin will perform at 1:00 on November 5th. Admission to "Holidays in the Mountains" is adults - $8.00, seniors - $7.00, and children $6.00 (ages 3 to 18).

The World of Trains exhibit will be running as part of the festival. This special model train layout has been further enhanced by the new addition of a landscaped garden. A "G" scale train encircles our real caboose located outside the museum.

The Children's Museum is located at 461 West Outer Drive in Oak Ridge. Phone is 482-1074. The museum itself is a wonderful experience for families. Please come as a pack or troop or independently.
