At our regular Thursday night meeting, Fred asked that I think about how?a?recommendation to ban?burning could?be approached for the community.
I do believe that the burning issue/ban should be addressed as part of a comprehensive plan for sustainability and quality of life.? If we?isolate this issue apart from?other sustainable practices, the public and government officials may become so embroiled in a cultural and personal rights debate, that we could create a negative bias to the concepts of sustainability before we even present our full recommendations in the spring.????
I think we should go into observation mode at this time:?The upcoming fall leaf season, the local ozone action day records, the current?commercial developments that will involve land clearing as well as the implementation of the administrative policies for controlled burning for now.? These observations may provide EQAB with a cogent rationale for policy recommendations on this topic.
KY limits? ACD burning by defining the allowed opacity of the smoke.? KY has a great powerpoint on this topic with burn pictures worth copying.?
