My, Mr Simmons' appearance has changed a lot in just 4 years.
People seem to forget that a just-in-time economy is a double-edged
sword. JIT is great for wringing the last dollar of productivity out
of the system, by pushing inventory and its associated carrying cost
to almost zero. This makes a fantastic variety of fresh goods
available to you at low prices. But JIT's flip side, which we just
experienced three weeks ago, is that the system transmits pain
instantaneously, too. Too many people think "it can't happen here"
when, just three weeks ago, it *did* happen here.
