To City Council members:
Single-stream recycling is an ideal opportunity for Oak Ridge to leap
ahead and be a leader for a very small price. We should expect to put
this front and center as one of the reasons Oak Ridge is a leader.
This is the cultural leadership young professionals like to see when
they choose a place to live.
I encourage everyone on the council to support the increase in
garbage fees for encouraging wide use of single-stream recycling. I
know the details of how this works may not be completely appreciated.
Those of us on EQAB have looked at it. Always there is room for fine
tuning. Yet, this is a system that is being used successfully in many cities.
Cost? I asked a friend who lives in Knoxville (off Ebenezer Road,
near Westland Dr) what she paid for garbage pickup (without
single-stream recycling). $56 per quarter.
I have talked to my neighbors. They want to recycle. This is easier.
Thanks
