Hello:

So that everyone is clear, city boards are prohibited from submitting news articles to the press.  Submitting an article as a citizen is entirely different than submitting an article as a board member representing the city.  Further, press/news releases are exclusively a staff function.  This topic has been added to the September 3rd EQAB meeting for further discussion.  Please contact me directly with any questions regarding this matter.

It was just brought to my attention that one of our members submitted information to the Oak Ridge Observer and not to the Oak Ridger for publication.  I think this is a poor practice and one we should avoid in the future.  I recommend that we adopt a "News Release" position for all EQAB generated information that is intended for publication and submit formally to both publications, as well as any others we as a Board feel are appropriate.  Further, these releases should only be from the Chairman, or designee after discussion, notification, or approval from the Board membership.
