Greetings,

just to get this into the record:

As you know, the Garden Committee of Jimmy, myself, Steve Byrd, and
Tom Rowe, is tasked with coming up with a post-highway garden
reconstruction plan.

After the last GC meeting, I solicited advice from my neighbors. Lotsa
green thumbs in Oklahoma Hills, which is between Nebraska Ave (last
stop light before K-25) and the West End bunkers.

Here's what they came up with. I recognize that not all of these are
great choices.

TREE RECOMMENDATIONS from the OKLAHOMA HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD
SPECIES HEIGHT

Colorado Spruce	tall

redbud moderate
dogwood
catalpa
mulberry
carolina silver bells
Golden Chain
weeping cherries

rhododendron	understory
laurel
thuja

holly evergreen
yew
Carolina Sapphire

These last are supposed to be good at limiting invasion by vines,
which is one of the Green Environment goals.

Also, several of my neighbors want to donate plants, such as
daffodils. I do hope there is a way for them to do that expeditiously
without some state bureaucrat raining on their parade.

Robert

PS. I called the architect who designed the First Christian Church,
which is a-building at the southwest intersection of Gum Hollow Road
and the Turnpike. He said they do indeed have a landscaping plan
already, and in fact have modified it three times already to
accommodate right-of-way constraints per the state arborist. They are
sending me a plan.
