"The Impact Of Materials Developed at ORNL On The Local and National
Economy"
Dr. Vinod Sikka, Director of Product Development, Nanotechnology Division,
of Ross Technology-Oak Ridge
Abstract:
The presentation will discuss specific examples of alloys developed at ORNL
and the commercialization efforts for these alloys at a number of companies
around
the country.

Lunch by the Soup Kitchen will be $7.00 and includes at least 2 choices of

DIRECTIONS TO MEETING LOCATION
Our meeting location is the white-colored
building at 1201 Oak Ridge Turnpike (State Highway 95)
between Taco Bell and Applebee's
at the intersection of the Turnpike and
Rutgers Ave (at Traffic Light #7).
At the south-west corner of the white-colored building
there is an entrance with a canopy.
Caution - - there is an additional entrance with
a canopy close by - - the entrance we use is that
closest to the Jameson Inn. The glass door is identified as
"The University of Tennessee - University Outreach &
Continuing Education."
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Sikka was employed with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for 34
years and his last
post at ORNL was as Manager of Research and Technology Development in the
Materials
Science and Technology Division. Currently he is Director of Product
Development,
Nanotechnology Division, of Ross Technology-Oak Ridge, a new start-up
company originally
out of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Sikka got his Ph.D. in 1973 in Materials Science from the University of
Cincinnati. His
expertise at ORNL ranged from the development of new materials to the
transfer of technology to
industry. He has published over 200 papers and articles and has given
hundreds of presentations
on various topics. Dr. Sikka has won countless numbers of awards over the
years. Some of these
awards include ten Research & Development Magazine 100 Awards, this year's
UT-Battelle
Inventor of the Year Award, and the 2007 Science and Technology award. He
also holds 41
patents.
