very salient and topical program:

May 21, 2008 Friends of ORNL Lunch/Lecture
"Climate Change: The Energy-Carbon-Water Nexus"
Gary Jacobs, Director, Environmental Sciences Division, ORNL

Abstract:
The impacts and solutions to global climate change revolve around three essential ingredients for
global sustainability: Energy, Carbon, and Water. These three resources are interrelated and
understanding the complex cycles that are driven by both physical and socioeconomic processes
is one key to estimating future impacts from climatic change that is occurring at an accelerating
pace. The presentation will summarize the influence of the Energy-Carbon-Nexus on climate
change, some of the possible impacts from projections of climate change, and the role of
technology and human behaviors in addressing climate change.
