[Fornlist] SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - Candidates for Board Membership

As you were previously notified (e-mail dated January 20, 2009) the FORNL Membership
will vote on candidates for two positions on the FORNL Board during the
February 18, 209, Luncheon/Lecture meeting. The Nominating Committee is
presenting two candidates.
Additional candidates are allowed from the floor; however, anyone nominating
a candidate from the floor must give assurances that they have discussed
this with the proposed candidate and that the candidate has agreed to perform
the duties of a Board Member.
The two candidates (and their biographies) being presented by the Nominating
Committee are presented below.

Susan L Gawarecki, PhD (nominated for a first full term)
Susan Gawarecki has served as Executive Director of the Oak Ridge Reservation
Local Oversight Committee (LOC) for twelve years. The organization's mission
encompasses environmental cleanup, stewardship of remediated sites,
emergency response coordination, historic preservation of Manhattan Project
buildings, reindustrialization of surplus federal facilities, and economic impacts
of U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) actions. In her position, she
communicates the concerns of local governments and citizens to DOE and
regulatory authorities regarding DOE's decisions and operations in Oak Ridge.
For ten years prior to joining the LOC she was an environmental consultant and
program manager in the field of hydrogeology and site investigations. She has
her BA in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia, her MS in
Geological Sciences from Lehigh University, and her PhD in Geology from the
University of South Carolina, where she also worked in the Earth Sciences and
Resources Institute as a Research Associate. Although her current work is
largely policy oriented, she continues to add to her scientific expertise through
continuing education opportunities and attendance at technical presentations.

Dave W. McVicker (nominated for a full board term after having served the
balance of an another's person's uncompleted term)
Education:
Bachelor of Science (Chemistry), University of Southern California, Orange CA
Master of Business Administration (MBA), Chapman University, Orange CA
Professional Summary:
Thirty-six (36) years with the Department of Defense. Served several years as
an USAF communications and electronics officer with the North American Air
Defense Command (NORAD) and the Strategic Air Command (SAC). In this
capacity, served as an electronics officer at a NORAD control center and at a
radar site in the U.S. and at a radar site during the SE Asia conflict. In SAC as
a guidance officer with the Atlas-D ICBM system and a communications
controller in the Headquarters SAC underground and airborne command post
system. Then as a civilian, served for nearly 20 years in Washington, DC as an
Operations Research Analyst, costing major Army weapon systems and
management information systems. Retired at the Pentagon in 1996.
Moved to Oak Ridge right after September 11th, 2001. The move was based
on his interest in the city's history. Volunteering since 2002 to the present
with: the American Museum of Science and Energy, Oak Ridge Facilities Public
Tour Guide, the Secret City Scenic Excursion Train (Spring through Fall), ORNL
History Room, and Friends of ORNL Board Member.
