He collected nearly 200 black and white photos in a volume entitled Historic Photos of the Manhattan Project that trace the project's unfolding from its secret origins in Oak Ridge, Hanford and Los Alamos through the end of the war. They capture faces caught in ordinary moments during extraordinary times. Joseph will present his book, describe how he found the images and compiled them for publication and sign copies at a Community Lecture to be held at the American Museum of Science and Industry (AMSE) in Oak Ridge, Tuesday, December 8. The public can purchase his book on site at a special rate for this function. A reception and book signing will occur from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, followed by a lecture. Joseph is a senior scientist, freelance technical writer, and former college professor. He wrote a weekly column for the Knoxville News Sentinel. His literary publications include two novels and a book of poetry. This event is part of the Friends of ORNL Community Lecture Series, presented with the East Tennessee Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. Other sponsors include Y12 Credit Union, UT-Battelle, The Oak Ridger, BBB Communications, the AMSE, and The Soup Kitchen. The reception (5:30) and lecture (6:30) are free and open to the public.
