ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Gary Adkins has more than 20 years experience in the nuclear industry. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a degree in electrical engineering in 1987. As a TVA employee since 1987, Mr. Adkins has been involved with many nuclear projects. He started his career at Watts Bar Nuclear Plant doing work to upgrade the Main Control Room. This work progressed to Browns Ferry and Sequoyah Nuclear Plants where he designed plans to replace old instrumentation equipment with new digital computer technology. Mr. Adkins managed the Browns Ferry License Renewal project that extended the license of the plant 20 years. This project required him to manage engineering, licensing and environmental groups to support the September 8, 2009 project. Mr. Adkins is currently a Senior Project Manager in Nuclear Generation and Development at TVA. Current projects he is working on include managing the license renewal for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant, evaluating the Instruments and Controls (I&C) and electrical systems for new nuclear plant designs, and evaluating the existing I&C and electrical systems at the Bellefonte site.
