TO: Congregation Leaders

Please join us for our next Congregations of Promise meeting on Tuesday, September 28* at 12 p.m. at the Literacy Imperative Center located at 201 Harriet Tubman Street, phone 673-8988. Please note that the Literacy Imperative Center has agreed to host all of our meetings for the rest of 2004. Brown bag lunch or bring $2 to chip in for pizza.

Here are some highlights from our August meeting as well as our meeting information for the rest of the year:

a.. Planning and promotion is underway for a Children’s Sabbath to be held on October 10. Resource information is available at www.knoxvillespromise.org under the Resources and Partners section.
b.. Knoxville’s Promise is concentrating a lot of efforts to help get resources for Inskip Elementary School. Much discussion was had about the need for a mentoring program and recruiting volunteers from area churches. Inskip Program Director, Goldie Simpkins asked that we not begin a recruitment phase until we get all of the details in place for a successful mentoring program. She will keep the group informed about this process.
c.. Tracey Farr is leading a workshop on October 9 at the Children’s Ministry Fellowship Conference at Cokesbury Center about Knoxville’s Promise. This will be the first time we use the new Faith Traditions and the Five Promises document that the group has worked on for the past several months.
2004 Meeting Informationà

*Our September meeting has been pushed back a week due to a scheduling overlap with the Knoxville’s Promise Board of Directors. In October we will resume our regular 3rd Tuesday of the month meeting schedule, with no meeting in December.

Remaining 2004 Meeting Dates:

Tuesday, October 18 at 12:00 p.m. and Tuesday, November 16 at 12:00 p.m.

Please try to attend our meeting this month as we explore more ways to help children and youth. This month we will also learn more about the Knoxville Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Initiative’s traveling trunk for the faith community. Thanks for all of your continued support. We hope to see you at the next meeting.

BRING A FRIEND!!

Help us build more support for congregation involvement by inviting someone to come with you to the meeting.
