7th Annual Alliance for Youth Regional Summit Scheduled
for April 15, 2005
Coordinated For Youth, By Youth
Mr. Lesra Martin to be Keynote Speaker
Mr. Lesra Martin, subject of the major Hollywood motion
picture, The Hurricane, starring Denzel Washington, will be
the keynote speaker for the 7th Annual Alliance for Youth
Summit scheduled on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 8:00 a.m.
until 4:00 p.m. at the Knoxville Convention Center.
The Summit has been one of the largest events of its kind in
the region for several years bringing high quality workshops
and impressive entertainment to citizens concerned for the
welfare of our local children and youth. This year we are
doing things a little differently by appealing directly to
youth themselves to take action and get involved. Teen
representatives from the Youth Action Council have been hard
at work coordinating this groundbreaking Summit planned For
Youth, By Youth.
The theme for this years event is Can You Hear Us Now?
and will focus on educating teens about ways to be involved
in the community and utilize public processes to have their
opinions heard. In addition, the Summit will serve as an
opportunity for teens to express viewpoints and raise
awareness of youth concerns among public officials.
Morning activities including workshops, roundtables and
lunch with the keynote will take place at the Knoxville
Convention Center. Following the keynote, youth attending
will be escorted to Downtown Market Square to watch local
talented teens perform in the Summit Center Stage Talent
Showcase as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival.
Youth ages 11 to 17 are encouraged to attend as well as
youth groups from student organizations and schools, local
congregations, and after school and extracurricular
programs.
