Hello everyone.
This email goes to all of the persons who were members
of the Knoxville's Promise listserv, which was and is
hosted by DiscoverET.org, a service of KORRnet.
I am writing you and all other members of all other
DiscoverET.org-hosted listservs to tell you about the
restart of our CHIPS program. (CHIPS is a service of
KORRnet, as is www.DiscoverET.org.)
Do you know anyone in Knox County who is 60 or older,
homebound, and isolated?
Do you have computer skills or financial resources that
you would consider contributing to a worthy cause right
here in East Tennessee?
If so, you might like to know more about CHIPS -- Computers
for Homebound & Isolated Persons. We are on on the Web at
www.DiscoverET.org/chips.
The mission of CHIPS is to train & equip homebound persons
to use e-mail and the Internet to overcome social isolation,
connect with people and resources, assert more control over
their own lives, and contribute to their community.
You can read about CHIPS and our current focus on Knox County
seniors at www.DiscoverET.org/chips.
WE NEED YOUR HELP to make this program a success so that we
can eventually reach every homebound, isolated senior in our
region and help them get connected. As one of our former
clients said, for a homebound person to touch the world via
the Internet "is a form of healing no amount of medicine can
touch."
You can help in one of three ways:
1. If you know a homebound & isolated senior in Knox County,
please help that person apply for the program. Just visit the
"Apply" page on the CHIPS site.
2. If you have computer skills, or communication skills in
general, you can become a CHIPS volunteer. All kinds of
volunteer positions are available. See the Volunteer page.
3. If you cannot contribute your time, perhaps you can help
financially. Even with donated systems, dollars are needed.
It costs $42 to add software, a modem, a surge protector,
and extra memory to each donated computer. And that does
not touch the cost of additional technology some disabled
clients may require. To make a contribution to CHIPS, visit
www.DiscoverET.org/chips/donate.html.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about CHIPS. Feel
free to forward this message to your friends.
