GREAT NEWS from the TEL negotiations front! Jeanne Sugg has announced that TEL will be receiving Scribner Writers Online, Twayne's Authors Online and Southern Life as additions to our subscription of Gale databases offered presently. These resources are widely known and respected literature collections that will greatly enhance humanities content for TEL.
These new collections should go live by the end of this week. Spread the news!
Below are discriptions:
Scribner Writers Online:
Scribner Writers Online contains more than 2,400 original and detailed bio-critical essays on the lives and works of more than 1,750 important authors from around the world. Now students, faculty and other researchers can access these literary references with flexibility and simplicity. Each entry averages 15-20 pages in length and includes a concise essay, hyperlinks for cross-referencing, a citation and biographical information that places the author's work in personal and historical context. Many authors in the Scribner Writers Series are seen from multiple perspectives through two, three or sometimes four essays. The series is designed to work the way students conduct literary research, therefore, students can go directly to an entry on a specific author, combine search criteria for a much more complex search, or explore thematic and chronological topics to make connections among writers.Essays are included from more than 17 unique Scribner Writers Series such as American Writers, British Writers, African Writers, Ancient Writers: Greece and Rome, European Writers, Latin American Writers, and Writers for Children.
Twayne's Authors Online:
The acclaimed Twayne's Authors Series of literary criticism offers in-depth introductions to the lives and works of writers, the history and influence of literary movements and to the development of literary genres. This online series features the content of nearly 600 books that comprise three print series --United States Authors, English Authors and World Authors -- each of which were carefully coordinated with input from librarians and educators to include authors universally studied in high schools and colleges. Twayne's Author Series is an ideal starting point for research papers on literary works and figures, special projects and presentations. Users can quickly gain results by searching for a specific author, combining search criteria for a more complex search, or exploring thematic and chronological topics.
Southern Life:
Southern Life combines selections from proprietary Gale reference content and periodicals. Southern Life contains nearly 5 million full-text articles gathered from actual searches through Thomson Gale material on topics that directly relate to Southern living, both past and present, including people, places, historical events and more. Containing data from a range of publications, such as academic journals (Example: Civil War History, American Antiquity), newspapers (Chattanooga Times/Free Press and Knoxville News-Sentinel) and authoritative reference works (Encyclopedia of African-American Culture and History and Encyclopedia of Recreation and Leisure in America).
