[Tasl] Contest Invites 4th-12th Graders to Read, Be Inspired, Write Back

Humanities Tennessee, in cooperation with the Center for the Book in the
library of Congress and Target Stores, invites 4th-12th graders in
Tennessee to participate in the 2008 Letters About Literature reading
and writing promotion program.  Students are encouraged to write letters
to authors-living or dead-explaining how the authors' works affected
them personally. 

State Prizes include $100 cash and a $50 Target GiftCard for 1st-place
winners at each level (Level I - grades 4-6; Level II - grades 7-8;
Level III - grades 9-12).  National Prizes include a $500 Target
GiftCard for each of six winners and a $10,000 LAL Reading Promotion
Grant for each winner's community or school library!

Contest deadline is December 14, 2007.

LAL supports national standards for teaching language arts and reading
as recommended by the National Council of Teachers of English and the
International Reading Association.
