Dear Colleagues,
I hope you will forward this information to your school library students.
Engaging preservice teacher-librarians in advocacy efforts can help
establish a value for these activities in their careers.
Thank you.
Best,
Judi

The Teacher-Librarian Division of the Arizona Library Association has
launched its campaign for the SKILLs Act, which will require a
highly-qualified teacher-librarian in every public school in the United
States.
We have created an advocacy website where you can learn more about the
SKILLs Act, find your Congresspersons' phone and email information, download
sample letters to send to your Senators and Representatives, and learn how
you can engage stakeholders like parents and teachers to join us in our
efforts.
State Chapters are more than welcome to utilize this material and pass it on
to their state listservs.

It is vitally important that you CALL or EMAIL your representative and
senators between now and the end of September, and encourage others to do
so, as hearings on the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind are happening
this month.
You can see a LIVE webcast of the first hearing at 10amEST on Monday
September 10, here: http://edlabor.house.gov/committee/schedule.shtml
Again, please join us in this important advocacy effort on behalf of our
nation's children.
