Tennessee's annual celebration to build awareness as to the true love, healing and joy that animals bring to our lives is almost here! Governor Bredesen has once again officially proclaimed the week to honor the precious animals. Organizations will be holding special adoption events along with educational institutions and businesses ensuring that animals are the focus of their work, school and/or organization. Tennessee is setting the tone showing that the animals are instrumental to our lives and actually strengthen our communities in so many ways.
On September 22 Emmylou Harris will kick off the week at Nashville Metro Animal Control to further promote the importance of adopting a pet from your local shelter. This is an opportunity to save a loving life and adopt their next best friend. Also it will be a day to meet talented and compassionate Emmylou and learn more about her true dedication to the animals. There will be fellow musicians that will be a part of the "Metro Pet and Pickin Party!" There will also be a celebrity pet strutt. A day full of pure fun is planned. Expect lifelong memories to be made for the entire family.
A variety of statewide events for the entire family are planned throughout the week. Fun-filled activities with loving adoptables will help build awareness for the animals. Pet therapy at St. Jude and other hospitals and health facilities are scheduled. R.E.A.D. dogs and library events are planned, as well. School children will be creating posters and essays across Tennessee. Law enforcement and military animals will be saluted at events. Some spay and neuter clinics will be giving special rates and emphasis on the week. Community leaders will be in attendance at many of the events to meet and greet. Smoky, the mascot of the winning football team UT Volunteers, will be on hand at one Knoxville event signing autographs and wagging his tail. Many organizations will have their staff showcasing their sweet animals in a variety of ways.
Blessings for the animals are being scheduled across the state and will be included in honor of St. Francis Day which is October 4th but many worship and organize celebrations for the weekend before the actual date. Blessings will transpire at many adoption events, too. Scores of media outlets and on air personalities will be showcasing their pets and devoting time to animal related features. The special annual TWFA edition of The Animal World newsmagazine will be distributed to all 312+ libraries in Tennessee in September, as well as, their regular locations and at events.
Contact us if you need The Animal World issues for your event. Please see our calendar on page 8-9 of the special issue, and check frequently on the official website. Activities and events will be scheduled up until the actual week so there is still plenty of time for you and friends to schedule a celebration to underscore the importance of animals in your community.
The awesome animals of our great state will be benefit from us coming together in unity on their behalf. Approximately 50 events have been scheduled and there will be more added. Learn more about Tennessee Week for the Animals and schedule an event at 877-454-0807 or www.TennesseeAnimals.org
