There's a new opportunity for creative 9-12
year olds in the Nashville area. Creativity Camps of Nashville will
take place weekdays June 9-27 and July 7-25 at Scarritt-Bennett
Center (near Vanderbilt University). Classes range from art to
writing to theatre. Before and after care is available to accommodate
working parents (from as early as 7:30 am to as late as 5:30 pm).
The instructors are top-notch.
For example, Linda Ragsdale is one of the art teachers, and she has
taught throughout Middle Tennessee and beyond and has published a
variety of books on art for young people. Her unique technique for
teaching drawing makes art accessible even to students who don't
think they have a knack for art!
Helen Hemphill is an award-winning writer. Her book Long Gone Daddy
garnered praise nationwide, and she will work with campers on writing
fiction.
Chip Arnold has appeared in regional theatres in such notable roles
as Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and Biff Loman in Death of a
Salesman. The Second Chance, a feature film he co-wrote, was released
nationally on February 17, 2006 to
considerable acclaim, and he will spend a week with campers working
on writing and producing a one-act play.
And those are only a few of the talented artists on board to teach at
Creativity Camps this summer!
I hope you'll spread the word tot he students and parents in your
schools. One week of camp starts at $310, and the knowledge students
will
carry back to their own schools the following fall is priceless.
