The Tennessee Young Writers' Workshop (TYWW), a writing program for
students who have just completed grades 7-12 and have a strong interest
in developing their writing skills, is now accepting applications for
the 2008 session, to be held July 13-19 at Austin Peay State University
in Clarksville. The program is presented by the non-profit Humanities
Tennessee.

The TYWW gives students with an interest in writing the opportunity to
explore that interest and to devote time to their work in a unique
environment with an outstanding faculty and supportive peers. Areas of
study include poetry, fiction, memoir and songwriting/lyric writing.

Workshop participants attend writing classes during the day and spend
their afternoons and evenings in individual writing time, recreational
activities, and presentations by visiting authors, songwriters, and
performers. Author and songwriter Marshall Chapman is already confirmed
as a special presenter for this year's workshop.

Workshop faculty are college professors and published writers. They
have collectively won numerous awards for their writing, and with a
maximum student to teacher ratio of 12 to 1, the students are able to
truly reap the benefits that the outstanding faculty members have to
offer.

Students are encouraged to apply to as residential students or as day
students. Clarksville-area students, in particular, may appreciate the
day student option. Day students are still eligible to apply for
scholarship support.

All scholarship applicants must be Tennessee residents and must
demonstrate financial need. Interested students should send one writing
sample, a letter of recommendation (preferably from an English teacher),
one copy of the family's most recent 1040 statement submitted to the
IRS, and a workshop registration form. Scholarship assistance varies
from $100 to full coverage of tuition ($650 for residential students and
$450 for day students).

Students that would like to attend the workshop without scholarship
assistance must submit one writing sample, a workshop registration form,
and a $150 deposit. The deposit will be applied to the total fee.

Application materials are available at
www.humanitiestennessee.org/youngwriters or by calling Emily Masters
at 615-770-0006x15. The deadline for scholarship applications is May 16.
Students will be notified of their acceptance by June 13.
