The following was on lm_net. Forgive me for posting if you already
know this sad news.
Nancy

It is with a heavy heart that I pass on the news that Coleen Salley of New
Orleans died today in Baton Rouge. The author of Epossumondas, Why
Epossumondas Has No Hair on His Tail, Epossumondas Saves the Day, and
Who's That
Trippin' over My Bridge, Coleen was also immortalized in Janet
Steven's To Market To
Market. An educator, a storyteller, and even, for one brief television
commercial, an actress, Coleen epitomized New Orleans, and New Orleans
 epitomized
her.

Coleen grew ill this summer after IRA, and after many tests, it was
discovered she had Creutzfeldt-Jakob
Disease (CJD). Details about the service, where to send cards and flowers,
etc. have not yet been announced, but I wanted to get the word out to all her
many friends. With her uniquely raspy voice, her portable chair as well as
the motorized one she rode around in on the exhibit floors at conferences, and
her unending love of 32 paged picture books, Coleen was a force to be
reckoned with and a woman with a big heart. She will be sorely missed.
