Subject: [aaslforum] The Library of Congress MARC Record Usage

The Library of Congress has consulted with R2, Consultants, to determine the usage of LC MARC cataloging records in the U.S., and how libraries obtain cataloging records. They will use the data to determine whether they should continue to provide full level cataloging, or to modify their approach. It is very important that school libraries become involved in this activity, and R2 is seeking input from school libraries, as not many are currently registered to participate in the survey of MARC record usage. I am writing to encourage you to somehow make this activity known to school libraries, so that they can share their views on LC and cataloging. Here is the web link to the R2 consulting page

Membership here at bibrecords.ning will be the primary mechanism by which we promote our online library survey later this month. Please invite your colleagues to join us, and please offer any suggestions you might have about how to attract more school and/or Canadian librarians.

Thank you for your consideration.
