Contest
School library media specialists are encouraged to submit videos to the
American Association of School Librarians (AASL) detailing how they promote
21st century skills in their school community. This is an opportunity for
school library media specialists to be creative and share how they
incorporate 21st century skills into their schools. The videos will be
featured on the AASL Web site, at the P21 Cyber Summit, and on the
ilovelibraries.com Web site. All entries will be judged by the entire AASL
member community from May 9 to May 23 and winners will be notified by June 1
by AASL. Goal
An opportunity for school library media specialists to share information
about how they promote 21st century skills with their students. Intended
Audience
* the Obama administration
* Congress
* State legislators
* National education groups
* Policy advocates
* School Administrators
* School library media specialists
* Teachers
* Media
Suggested focus
AASL encourages creativity. School library media specialists can portray a
debate on why 21st century skills are important; show a lively classroom
using 21st century skills; ask a student to explain how 21st century skills
have changed their educational focus; or introduce a new way to use,
advocate for, or interpret 21st century skills.Submission process
This contest is open to AASL members only. Entries should be submitted to
Melissa Jacobsen, mjacobsen at ala.org, by May 8, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Please
include your AASL membership ID with your submission. All videos must be
accompanied by a signed video/photo release form

Videos should be no more than 3 minutes. All entries over 3 minutes will be
disqualified.Acceptable file formats
Only WMV, RealVideo and QuickTime formatted files will be accepted.Awards
$150 (1st), $100 (2nd), and $50 (3rd) American Express gift certificates for
the top three entries. The videos will be featured on the AASL Web site, at
the P21 Cyber Summit, and on the ilovelibraries.com Web site. Possible
feature and recognition at AASL conferences. One prize per entry.
About the Cyber Summit
The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) National Summit will take
place June 11-12, 2009, in Washington, D.C. by invitation only. The theme
for this year's summit is "A Movement in Progress." The goals for the summit
are to engage the Obama administration and Congress; advance the P21
movement; and create a National Action Agenda with 21st century skills as a
