Hello everyone!
On Tuesday, January 20, 2009, the new Tennessee Electronic Library website will go live! The website has been redesigned in order to accommodate two new features: a federated search and geolocation technology.
The FEDERATED SEARCH cross-searches all of the TEL Databases, with the exception of HertiageQuest Online, LearningExpress Library, Literature Resources from Gale (which is NOT LRC), Gale's Scribner Writers Series, and Twayne Author Series.
In addition to the new search feature, the TEL site will offer various ways in which users can browse the TEL Databases, including by School Grade Level, Subject, and an A to Z List of ALL the databases.
The GEOLOCATION TECHNOLOGY allows users to access the TEL resources without having to use passwords. The technology recognizes that the person entering the site is from Tennessee by the IP address. Users whose IP address is not recognized will be prompted for their City, Zipcode, and Telephone number with area code.
If your library is linked to the http://tntel.tnsos.org you will NOT need to change anything. The new site will automatically replace the old site.
Take a sneak peak at http://tntel.tnsos.org/new.htm
I am finalizing a webcast tutorial for the new site, which I hope to have posted by Tuesday.
This is an exciting new chapter for TEL and we at TSLA are hoping that it helps to bring TEL to a whole new audience this year!
