Calling all TN Libraries to Collect TEL Stories!
TEL is the focus of this year's TN Library Legislative Day and for good
reason. TEL turns 10-years-old in 2009. We want to kick-off this year-long
celebration by collecting stories about TEL and, through its wealth of
materials, the great service it has provided to the many people of our great
state. In these tough economic times, we want to be able to show how
library-sponsored programs like TEL make a difference in the lives of
everyday Tennesseans. We want to ensure that our citizens continue to
benefit from the many resources TEL offers and we want to be able to
continue to celebrate its successes for another ten years!
TEL Stories! Contest
As part of this year's Tennessee Library Legislative Day, the TLA
Legislative Committee is sponsoring a TEL Stories! Contest. This contest is
open to every Tennessee resident and three lucky storytellers will win a new
MP3 player!
But TEL users aren't the only winners. The LIBRARY with the most TEL Stories
submitted by your patrons will win a $250 dollar equivalent of print or
audio books for your library! (Books have been generously donated by North
South Books www.northsouth.com <http://www.northsouth.com/> and Full Cast
Audio www.fullcastaudio.com <http://www.fullcastaudio.com/> )
TLA is looking for stories that show how TEL has helped patrons:
. Get a job
. Apply for a job online
. Learn about a company which has made the interview successful
. Improve their grades
. Take an online class
. Improve skills to make them more employable
. Enhance or enrich their lives in any number of ways
Distribute to patrons the contest entry form attached below, which can be
submitted by mail or electronically to TLA.
Contest Rules
Any resident of Tennessee can enter. Submit a story of 250 words or less
using the entry form. By submitting your story you are automatically
entered into the contest to receive an MP3player. Stories will be reviewed
by a panel of librarians chosen by the TLA Legislation Committee. By
submitting your story, you grant TLA permission to use your name, affiliated
institution and testimonial for marketing and promotion purposes. TLA will
not release, distribute or sell your email address.
Contest entry deadline is Jan 31, 2009!
Here is a list of ways YOU can encourage your patrons to submit their
stories:
. Conduct a brief interview with students or patrons.
. Talk to people in your community: trustees, chambers of commerce,
community leaders, local business people.
. Advertise the contest in your local paper or online newsletter
. Use the attached TEL Stories! icon to create a link to the TEL
Stories! Contest Entry Form on your website!
