The chart above describes the amount of materials taken to landfills and the amount that was recycled in 2005 in Knox County. Class III/IV landfills are construction and demolition landfills that accept waste specifically from the construction or destruction of a building.  Class I landfills are the ones that accept municipal solid waste, better known as the trash or garbage that we toss out on a daily basis.  The amount recycled in this graph includes numbers reported from both public and private entities.  The information for the graph came from Knox County’s Solid Waste office.

NOTE: THE TOTALS REPRESENT THOUSANDS OF TONS, SO 471 = 471,000 TONS, NOT 471 TONS.
