WHAT DO SPONSORS DO?
Sponsors are the backbone of our program, and Bridge could not fulfill its mission without them. In an average year, sponsors contribute upwards of $140,000 in time and financial support. Once a group decides to sponsor, Bridge offers training and orientation to the group and ongoing support throughout the 90-day sponsorship experience. Our sponsors have at their disposal our comprehensive Sponsorship Training Manual, which guides the organization of the Sponsorship Team.
Sponsorship is:
- A moral commitment;
- A group commitment of about 250 hours;
- Meeting the family at the airport;
- Setting up an apartment with basic furniture and housewares;
- Assisting with initial employment;
- Providing transportation until the refugees can drive or use the bus;
- Introducing the family to the community;
- Being a friend!
Sponsorship is NOT:
- Necessarily expensive; ($2,000 for a family of four);
- A permanent commitment (the term of sponsorship is 90 days);
- A legal commitment involving responsibility for debts or criminal activities;
- A guarantee that the refugees will live according to the sponsors' wishes.
