Presidents Corner
1. Board Status
We wish to welcome new board member, Wendy Williams, who joined the board at the May 1, 2001 meeting. She is an avid senior runner and is a physicist, who retired from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) three years ago. She still consults with ORNL.
The Oak Ridge RID group has 10 of its 15 authorized board positions filled leaving 5 vacant positions. If you are interested or if you know of anyone who might be interested in becoming a RID board member, please call Kelly Dagenhart at 865-483-8801. In addition to attending board meetings, each RID board member is expected to contribute to the organization’s activities.
2. RID Web Site
RID of Oak Ridge/Anderson County has had a website active since last Fall and has slowly been building up material on the site. The web address is www.korrnet.org/ridorac. Our webmaster is Buford Carter. We intend to add DUI traffic statistics that are not available on any of the other volunteer, state or traffic safety sites. Our Court Watch Manual will also soon be on the site. Comments are invited on how to improve the site.
3. Breaking News Story
I received a call from the Roane County News Paper reporter, Forrest Berkshire, that a reported DUI (Danny Bridges) had just killed himself in a crash and had put three people in the intensive care unit at UT Hospital via Lifestar. The accident happened on Highway 70 at 10:00 a.m. on July 9, 2001. This would make his 10th DUI conviction if held up in court. The BAC (blood alcohol content) will not be back for several days. He had also killed someone two years ago in a BUI (boating under the influence) accident. For some unknown reason he still held a driver’s license. We will be doing a story on this in the next issue, when more of the details are known.
