Sevier County Health Improvement Council “Advocates for Improving Health & Wellness” Tuesday, August 21, 2007 Pigeon Forge Community Center Meeting Minutes
I. CALL TO ORDER AND ATTENDANCE Chair Angelos called the meeting to order at 9:37 a.m. at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. Council members present included: Garnet Angelos, Chair; Amy Daniels, Chair-Elect and Treasurer; Mary Vance, Member-at-Large: Mary Joyce Hughes, Kim Loveday, Teen Pregnancy and Parenting Chair Pamela Morgan, Member-at-Large; Linda Rideout, Membership and Nominating Committee Chair; Vicki Kay, Preventive Chair; April Gillispie, Secretary; Pamela Morgan, Member-at-Large; and Delores Vess. Advocates present included: Daphne Stephens, Deborah Horton, Lana Scott and Don Denney. Members absent included: Linda Hyder, Paula Mitchell, Beth Penland and Lisa Yarber. Advocates absent included: Gloria Christiansen, Mary Cook, Cindy Michaluk and Brad McCarter. Resources included: Bonnie Hinds, Kris Hontz, Corrin Reinheimer and Jana Chambers. II. INVOCATION Opening excercises were led by Amy Daniels. III. WELCOME-MEMBERS AND GUESTS Chair Angelos welcomed members and guests. Bonnie Hines introduced Corrin Reinheimer as a replacement for Kris Hontz as the Regional Health Department Representative. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes from the June 2007 Health Council meeting were emailed and mailed to those without email prior to the meeting. Chair Angelos asked if there were any changes that needed to be made. A motion was made by Ms. Rideout to approve the June 2007 minutes. The minutes were seconded and approved. V. COMMITTEE/TASK FORCE/TEAM REPORTS a. Executive: Chair Angelos gave a report regarding survey submission. Refer to MAPP. b. Finance: Chair-Elect and Treasurer Daniels reported that the financial statement reflected a balance of $32,532.71. The financial statement reflects the following balances in individual accounts: General: $4,977.74, Preventative: $17,002.34, Parenting: $1,132.28, Community Resource Guide: $2,050.00, Senior Christmas: $1,149.96, Sevier County Promise: $432.52, Teen Christmas: $4,787.87, Marketing: $500.00, Tobacco: $500.00 Ms. Daniels requests that task force chairs turn in their budgets by September 24 to be presented at October’s council meeting. Chair Angelos requested a motion to approve the financial statement as written. A motion was made by Ms. Loveday to approve the statement. The motion was seconded and approved. c. MAPP: Chair Angelos reported that the council collected and submitted to the East Tennessee Health Office a total of 1,500 surveys. Results are expected to be reported to councils in December or January. d. Membership & Nominating: No report. e. Parenting: No report. f. Preventive: Ms. Kay reported that the group has flu shot clinics for Tuesday October 23, 2007 at the Gatlinburg Community Center at 8:00a.m. and Thursday October 25, 2007 at the Sevierville Community Center at 4:00p.m. The group is collaborating with Fort Sanders Diabetes Clinic to hold a diabetes education fair; the group submitted a grant to the state requesting $7,000 to assist with this initiative. The next meeting is set for Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 2:00p.m. at the Sevierville Civic Center, conference room. g. Teen Pregnancy: No report. h. Tobacco Use and Prevention: The next meeting is set for Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Sevier County Health Department. VI. OLD BUSINESS There was no reported . VII. NEW BUSINESS a. Chair Angelos reported that there are office positions that need to be filled in January 2008. The open offices are Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. New officers will be inducted in December’s meeting. b. Council leadership activities were led by Ms. Hontz. Learning styles and personality traits were discussed and demonstrated. These qualities were exhibited through handouts, displays, group activities and discussion. Their roles in team work were demonstrated in this activity. VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS a.Task forces are encouraged to view the council website and update their information pages, and submit projects, pictures and updated information. b. Ms. Loveday has 12,000-15,000 copies of the most recently updated Community Resource Guide for all those who need them. The guide can also be found on the Council’s website. IX. ADJOURNMENT Chair Angelos adjourned the meeting at 11:22 a.m. Next Meeting: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. |
