	Sevier County Health Improvement Council “Advocates for Improving Health & Wellness” Tuesday, September 18, 2007 Pigeon Forge Community Center Meeting Minutes I. CALL TO ORDER AND ATTENDANCE Chair Elect Daniels called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. at the Pigeon Forge Community Center. Council members present included: Garnet Angelos, Chair; Amy Daniels, Chair-Elect and Treasurer; Kim Loveday, Teen Pregnancy and Parenting Chair Pamela Morgan, Member-at-Large; Linda Rideout, Membership and Nominating Committee Chair; April Gillispie, Secretary; Gayla Coleman, Tobacco Prevention Chair; Linda Hyder and Delores Vess. Advocates present included: Daphne Stephens, Angela Williams, Danny Hageman, Deborah Horton, Jessica Hageman, Lana Scott and Don Denney. Members absent included: Mary Joyce Hughes, Paula Mitchell, Beth Penland, Mary Vance; Member-at-Large and Regional Council Representative, Vicki Kay; Preventive Chair and Lisa Yarber. Advocates absent included: Gloria Christiansen, Mary Cook, Cindy Michaluk and Brad McCarter. Resources included: Karrin Reinheimer and Jana Chambers. II. INVOCATION Invocation was read by Angela Williams; Psalms 25. III. WELCOME-MEMBERS AND GUESTS Chair Angelos welcomed members and guests. She introduced Jessica Hageman, intern and respiratory therapist at Fort Sanders Sevier Medical Center. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes from the August 21, 2007 Health Council meeting were emailed and mailed to those without email prior to the meeting. Chair Angelos asked if there were any changes that needed to be made. A motion was made by Ms. Rideout to approve the August 21, minutes. The minutes were seconded and approved. V. COMMITTEE/TASK FORCE/TEAM REPORTS a. Executive: Chair Elect Daniels reported that discussing new ideas and options for meetings will be tabled at the group’s next meeting. b. Finance: Chair-Elect and Treasurer Daniels reported that the financial statement reflected a balance of $32,547.29. The financial statement reflects the following balances in individual accounts: General: $4,992.32, Preventative: $17,002.34, Parenting: $1,132.28, Community Resource Guide: $2,050.00, Senior Christmas: $1,149.96, Sevier County Promise: $432.52, Teen Christmas: $4,787.87, Marketing: $500.00, Tobacco: $500.00. Chair-Elect Daniels and Treasurer requested a motion to approve the financial statement as written. A motion was made by Ms. Loveday to approve the statement. The motion was seconded and approved. c. MAPP: No report. d. Membership & Nominating: Meeting to follow today’s meeting. e. Parenting: No report. f. Preventive: The preventive group has flu shot clinics for Tuesday October 23, 2007 at the Gatlinburg Community Center at 8:00 a.m. and Thursday October 25, 2007 at the Sevierville Community Center at 4:00 p.m. Please contact Ms. Kay for more information and/or if you would like to volunteer. Ms. Penland will be leading a group within the preventive group regarding childhood obesity. This will be tabled at the group’s next meeting. g. Teen Pregnancy: No report. h. Tobacco Use and Prevention: No Report. VI. OLD BUSINESS There was no reported. VII. NEW BUSINESS a. Chair Angelos reported that there are office positions that need to be filled in January 2008. The open offices are Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. New officers will be inducted in December’s meeting. Refer to Executive Meeting minutes. b. Council leadership activities were led by Ms. Reinheimer. Setting goals and objectives were discussed. They were demonstrated by group activities. The groups set a goal within their task force group. The group then broke the goal into multiple objectives then came up with activities to help execute the goal. VIII. ANNOUNCEMENTS a. Angela Williams announced that she has taken a position in Chattanooga and will be relocating there later in September. b. Ms. Loveday has 15,000 copies of the most recently updated Community Resource Guide for all those who need them. The guide can also be found on the Council’s website. IX. ADJOURNMENT Chair-Elect Daniels and Treasurer adjourned the meeting at 10:55 a.m. Next Meeting: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at the Pigeon Forge Community Center.
