Rev. and Mrs. Gary Baker

Meet Our Pastor

Rev. Gary Baker was appointed to Second United Methodist Church in Knoxville by the Holston Conference in June 2009.

A native of Knoxville, Gary graduated from Young High School in 1965, Carson-Newman College in 1968, and received his Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY in 1972.

Transferring his credentials in 1998 to the Holston Annual Conference, he took advanced classes in United Methodist history, doctrine and policy at Duke University.

In 1999, he received credentials as an Elder in the church. He has served as a pastor for 39 years.

Gary serves on the Holston Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and has served on district Boards of Ordained Ministry in the past.

Rev. Baker is married to Charlotte, a native of Thomaston, GA. She is a graduate of Tift College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Christian Education.
