Thank you for your interest in adopting a Bulldog through Smoky Mountains Bulldog Rescue. Please understand that we are trying to find a responsible, loving and stable home for a very special breed of dog that has lost its home for reasons outside its control. For this reason the application process must be very thorough. We don't want to put any dog through the adoption process more than once.

Smoky Mountains Bulldog Rescue is comprised of individuals who love the breed and are dedicated to its continued well-being. Reasons to love the Bulldog are obvious to us: as a breed they are extremely loyal, intelligent, loving and fun companions. We think that they are beautiful.

However, Bulldogs have other characteristics of which you need to be aware before committing your house and heart to a "Sourmug". Bulldogs are extremely heat intolerant and must be kept inside or in a climate-controlled environment as much as possible. Their average life span is eight years. They may have skin or allergy problems that lead to high veterinary bills. Bulldogs are tenacious, stubborn and they do drool.

Sending in the application form is no guarantee that you will ever get a rescue Bulldog. Thankfully, rescues are less frequent in Bulldogs than with many other breeds. All applications are carefully screened when rescue dogs come to our attention in an attempt to find the best fit between the needs of the dog and potential homes. If you are being considered for adopting a rescue dog then you would also have to agree to a home visit and to sign an adoption contract before you could receive the dog. However, we strongly appreciate your interest. It is to our rescue dogs benefit that we have a number of quality homes to consider for each rescue.

You might also consider attending a meeting of the Smoky Mountains Bulldog Club, which meets the first Tuesday of each month, at 7:00 p.m. Location varies. Please call Mari DeCuir, club Secretary 865-688-2270 for location of this month's meeting. It's a good way to learn more about Bulldogs and meet other people who love these wrinkly little clowns.

If you are interested in adopting a Rescue Bulldog and live in the East Tennessee general area please print out the Mail-In Application Form that you can go to by clicking on the words Mail-In Application Form. Fill out the form and then return it to the indicated address. Or you can fill in the On-Line Application Form instead by clicking on the words On-Line Application Form. Either Form is acceptable. Also carefully read the section on Adoption Procedures so that you will understand the entire adoption process.
